This instalment of the Renegade Report hosts South African expat and history buff, Wessel van Rensburg. He explains his view of colonialism as economically extractive as opposed to the Afrikaner nationalism which followed it. Wessel further argues that nationalism is a key requirement for infrastructure to be built and expands on why Apartheid and colonialism were not the same thing. Jonathan probes deeper into the dangers of nationalism at a state level and Roman queries why other post-colonial African countries’ form of nationalism did not have as much development as South Africa. The opposing views of the hosts and the guest make for a thought-provoking discussion.
