They always enlighten us on the creatures we love – Sharon Dale and Jonathan Sinclair educate us about animals and create awareness for animal abuse every week on AnimalCentral. As much as we know Editor-in-Chief and magazine owner Sharon and 27-year-old Jonathan are animal lovers, we decided to take some time to find out more about this interesting pair in this Getting To Know feature.
Sharon:
Q: You’ve had an interesting childhood, even being born on a Friday the 13th, do you still remember the name of your first pet?
A: Rinty – a Rough Collie.
Q: From Stuart Little to 101 Dalmatians, what would you say is your favourite animal movie?
A: Too many to mention! I love all animal movies.
Q: What’s the most extreme thing you’ve done in order to help an animal?
A: Jumped over a six foot wall in a dodgy area with my sister to rescue four pit bulls – and then lifted them back over the wall again so we could get them to safety.
Q: Here’s the golden question – puppies or kittens?
A: Puppies and kittens. In fact, anything with four legs, fur, feathers and scales.
Q: If you had to be an animal, which would you be and why?
A: I would be a dog because they are the most amazing creatures – filled with love, forgiveness and loyalty.
Jonathan:
Q: How many pets do you currently have?
A: I currently have two dogs, one female named Sarah, and one male named Bolt, both are rough collies, or Lassie collies as everyone likes to call them. I also have a cat named Midnight, he is cross Siamese and his name is Midnight because my mom spotted him in the garden in the middle of the night as an abandoned kitten – she actually thought he was a white flower, but when she went outside she discovered him.
Q: We know “animal lover” sometimes has connotations of “extreme animal activist” but we genuinely want to know – have you ever participated in an animal protest?
A: No! I have never.
Q: But still sticking with what you believe though, what do you think about people who wear fur?
A: I do not support people who wear fur, however sometimes I don’t let it change my entire perception of the person, for instance Joan Rivers used to wear fur, and when she was questioned by journalists she would ask them if they were wearing a leather belt or if they were wearing leather shoes. So I get her point, having said that, I believe the way that animals are killed for their fur is inhumane, savage and cruel and I would never purchase a fur garment or support a company that sold fur.
Q: Let’s be frank now – Cesar Milan or Steve Irwin?
A: Caesar. Although I enjoyed watching Steve Irwin before his passing, sometimes I felt that he really crossed some boundaries with wild animals.
Q: And if you had to be an animal, which would you be and why?
A: I think I would choose to be a cat that has an owner that treats their cat like royalty.
